Welcome to our web site!
We currently have three registered pedigree flocks of sheep; South Downs, Hampshire Downs, and Poll Dorset which are grazed all year round on fields at the foot of the South Downs and what is now known as the South Downs National Park.
We currently lamb our ewes in March enabling our sheep to spend the majority of the year in the fields on fresh grass.
We do house our ewe's for a very short period pre and post lambing to ensure the wellbeing of both ewe and lambs, ensure the ewe is producing enough colostrum to support her lambs, and ensure ewe and lamb bond.
While indoors the lambs are tail docked and have an ear tag inserted. During this period of housing they are fed fresh hay / silage and a small amount of concentrate feed just to ensure they have everything they need. After a few days indoors they are returned to the pasture.
We are also pleased to say we are FABBL registered (number 45470 ), which means we grow our meat to the red tractor standard. For consumers this means you can be assured that we have not only looked after the livestock properly (with respect, kindness, and compassion) but also that we have full traceability on the feed they have been given.
We use a local family run abattior just 20 minutes from the farm, where we know and trust the staff. The lamb carcasses are hung for a minimum of one week to allow the full flavour to develop and mature (as meat always used to be!). The carcass is then traditionally butchered and each joint individually packaged and labelled by a local butcher.
We check our sheep on a daily basis and during lambing time a constant check is kept on the ewes and lambs. we are always on call 24 hours a day!
We now have ram lambs of the three registered breeds for sale. Please look at out our sales page or contact us for further information.
