Poll Dorset's

The Poll Dorset is a direct descendent of the Dorset Horn sheep, one of the earliest recorded breeds of British Sheep being established in 1892 (anecdotally since 1707).

Poll Dorset sheep were first bred in 1956 and have a distinctive white wool coat and woolly face. The wool from these sheep is of particularly good quality and is often used for fine carpets, garments and for spinning.

The breed is naturally placid and inquisitive, often found coming to meet the shepherd when he enters the field.

They are adaptable and can utilize grass and forage based diets common in the West Country, being able to naturally adjust to wide range of conditions including altitude, temperature and rainfall.

The Poll Dorset’s are unique in their ability to lamb NATURALLY at any time of year, giving us a near continuous supply of prime quality meat, with a high proportion of meat which is of low fat and bone content.

The ewes are excellent milkers and attentive mothers as a result you get calm, contented lambs. In turn this means they are able to mature quicker resulting in less shepherd and veterinary intervention.

We now have some Poll Dorset wethers for sale, please visit or sales page or contact us for further details.
