Southdown sheep are one of the oldest native breed of sheep, originating on the south downs, and in their peak they roamed in flocks of thousands.
We are lambing our Southdowns this coming year in March which is just a little earlier than last year and true to type, the breed are docile in their nature and are incredibly hardy and having the ability to thrive on the poor chalk downland where other breeds would suffer!
They have a fine dense wool that covers the whole body. They are a medium size sheep adults weighing 60- 70 kg and lambs finishing around 18kg.
The Southdown sheep produce an excellent quality carcus with good confirmation and exceptional taste, regularly winning awards at the royal smithfields show and served at a premium in a lot of top London restaurants
