Southdown sheep are one of the oldest native breeds, originating on the South Downs, in their peak they roamed in flocks of thousands.
We lambed our Southdowns this year in March which is just a little earlier than last year. True to type, the breed are docile in their nature and are incredibly hardy, having the ability to thrive on the poor chalk downland where different breeds would otherwise suffer!
They have a fine dense wool that covers the whole body. They are a medium size sheep, with adults weighing 60- 70 kg and lambs finishing around 16-18kg (deadweight).
The Southdown sheep produce an excellent quality carcus with good confirmation and exceptional taste, regularly winning awards at the once Royal Smithfields Show, now served at a premium in a lot of top London restaurants.
We have breeding ewes, ewe lambs, and one remaining registered pedigree Southdown ram. We also now have some Southdown wethers for sale from this years lambing, please visit our sales page or contact us for further details.
We update this page on a regular basis so please visit again soon, or contact us for further information.
